4 Things to Know about the Red Cross in Kosciusko County

1. DISASTER
Red Cross is called upon to help victims and survivors of disasters. Most of the time, people think of disasters as the big events, but over 95% of the events our volunteers respond to is single-family fires. Along with the following statistics, over 890 individuals attended disaster preparedness presentations.

2. ASSISTANCE TO MILITARY FAMILIES
Red Cross volunteers and staff assist hundreds of local families who have a member in the military, whether they are from a guard unit or an active duty member in any of the branches of service anywhere in the world. In 2010-11, we completed 32 Military Cases requiring financial assistance and/or emergency communications and served 169 clients total in multiple capacities.
3. LIFESAVING TRAINING
Certified Red Cross personnel trains thousands of people in Kosciusko County each year in lifesaving techniques like CPR, First Aid and Lifeguarding.
Statistics for 2010-11:
- Began conducting new “Citizen CPR” course
- 21 Volunteer instructors
- 365 Classes in schools/preschools
- 2454 Adolescents trained in schools/camps
- 3498 trained in community/business settings
4. BLOOD
Red Cross is the nation’s largest blood supplier, and Kosciusko County works collaboratively to meet local needs. Red Cross mobile collection trucks conduct blood drives in Warrsaw and outlying parts of the county. In 2010-2011, over 100 blood drives were held throughout Kosciusko County collecting 5,595 units of blood.
