Masters of Disaster
This course provides students in grades K-8 with information
to help them prepare for disasters and stay safe during and after a
disaster in their home, school, or community. While strengthening students'
core academic skills in science, math, social studies, and language
arts (including reading, word comprehension, and spelling), the Masters
of Disaster curriculum educates them about hazards that cause injury,
death, and damage in the United States. The materials are designed for
flexibility, so that teaching teams can integrate hazard-related lessons
into the core academic subjects. The curriculum focuses on:
- General disaster preparedness
- Hurricanes
- Floods
- Tornadoes
- Lightning
- Earthquakes
This course is free of charge.
Scrubby Bear
Scrubby Bear ® is the symbol of a nationl campaign
to teach children, parents, health care personnel, day care providers,
and educators that infection can be combatted through frequent handwashing.
This course is free of charge.
Longfellow's Whale Tales
Longfellow's Whale Tales was created by the Red Cross
to help elementary school teachers make children aware of safe behavior
in and around water. They learn how to prevent accidents and what to
do if something goes wrong at the beach, pool, river, water slide, or
wave pool.
These lessons may save a life. Drowning is second only to car accidents
as the cayse of accidental death in school-age children. In warmer areas
of the country it's the leading cause.
This course is free of charge.
